Biafra, Oduduwa Republic: Where would my children belong if…. —Akeredolu
As public hearing on Constitution Review started across the federation, the Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has passionately declared that he doesn’t want Nigeria to disintegrate as being agitated by some secessionists clamouring for Biafra and Oduduwa Republic.
Declaring open the Akure zonal centre of the southwest Constitution review, the Governor wondered which country (between Biafra and Oduduwa) where his children would belong if Nigeria breakup, noting that he would rather work hard to defend the nation to remain as one united force.Akeredolu’s wife, Mrs Betty Anyanwu is from Imo state while the governor is from Owo in Ondo state.
The governor while addressing participants at the public hearing in Akure, he jokingly asked “if Nigeria breakup, where would my children belong, am a typical example of those who want a united Nigeria.
“My children may wish to follow their mother, and am not planning to start another family,” the governor said.
Akeredolu however insisted that it was high time for the National Assembly to give the nation an enduring Constitution that would address various agitations by different ethnic groups and regions and not another jamboree.
He said any country’s Constitution should reflect the mood of a nation and address anxiety of her people.
Akeredolu said, “only concessions secured in an ambience of strong and frank exchanges can guarantee Nigeria’s growth and development.”
“The Federal Government must shed itself of the excess weight it has appropriated over time,” Akeredolu.
